(The Center Square) – A founding member and former chair of the conservative U.S. House Freedom Caucus thinks a Pennsylvania Republican could be a “good person” to run for president in 2028.

According to the Washington Examiner, U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, floated U.S. Sen. Dave McCormick, R-Pa., as a potential candidate.

“I think Sen. McCormick could be a good person as well,” Jordan reportedly said, when mentioning several other Republicans who may be interested in seeking the party nod in 2028.

McCormick took the stage at the Republican Party’s midterm convention in Dallas, Texas on Wednesday evening. A first-term senator, McCormick was elected in 2024 by defeating three-term incumbent Democratic U.S. Bob Casey by roughly 15,000 votes.

During his speech on Wednesday, McCormick promoted the policies championed by President Donald Trump and the Republican Party.

Jordan’s comments on Wednesday evening were not the first time that McCormick has been floated as a presidential contender.

Semafor reported earlier this year that McCormick could be a contender if Vice President JD Vance decides not to seek the GOP nomination in 2028.

McCormick has previously shot down speculation that he’d be interested in running for president. In a June 2025 interview with Politico, he said he doesn’t intend to run for higher office in 2028 or 2032.

However, McCormick’s team did not respond to the Washington Examiner on Wednesday before press time.

Polling has consistently shown Trump’s approval rating underwater in Pennsylvania. But, McCormick has held more favorable ratings.

A New York Times/Philadelphia Inquirer/Siena poll conducted in Pennsylvania last month showed that 39% have a favorable opinion of McCormick, while 30% have an unfavorable view of the GOP senator. Although, 20% responded that they either didn’t know or refused to answer when asked about their view of McCormick, while another 10% said they have not heard of him

As a candidate in 2024, McCormick pledged to limit himself to two terms in the U.S. Senate.

McCormick has not said he’s interested in seeking the Oval Office in the next presidential election, but he isn’t the only Pennsylvanian mentioned to be a potential candidate for the presidency next cycle.

Gov. Josh Shapiro, who is seeking a second term in office this November, has been mentioned as a potential candidate for the Democratic Party presidential nomination in 2028.
