The Great Catharsis

Monday, October 20, 2025

Precisely what was the #NOKINGS protest all about?  Yes, people were very upset, but it made little to know sense really.  You can’t quite put your finger on what they were so upset about.  Oh sure, they had lots of things to talk about, but it just did not add up.  That’s when it hit me.. . .

In The Face Of Uncertainty

Sunday, October 19, 2025

The article linked here is about the swine flu of 2009 as a “dry run” for the covid lockdowns.  It is not entirely unreasonable, while at the same time being a bit too conspiratorial and overwrought.  Nonetheless, it contains one of the greatest summations for what happened I have ever encountered – “…an unprecedented response was justified due to the unprecedented uncertainty of an invisible threat….”  Everything I have or am reading indicates this to be the case – that we acted out of uncertainty and ignorance, not knowledge and assuredness.  This insight is less about science and more about character.. . .

Beyond Irony Lies Self-Contradiction

Friday, October 17, 2025

Not that anyone really cares, but Barack Obama did Marc Maron’s (who?) final podcast this week.  I have not listened to it, probably won’t, but the reviews are in and they are somewhat extraordinary.. . .

When The Going Gets Tough, Democrats Get Absurd

Thursday, October 16, 2025

I agree – “The Absurdity of #NOKINGS.”  It is amazing that the absurdity of the very idea itself needs pointing out, but in the end I just wish the absurdity ended there.  There is this, “The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors in a 4-1 vote declared an emergency in response to federal immigration raids, a move usually reserved for natural disasters or other conditions beyond the control of local officials.” Which, in light of #NOKINGS is truly absurd since the point of an emergency declaration is to activate powers that give the local government incredible amounts of king-like authority to, you know, like shut everything down for a bad flu.  And the absurdity continues.. . .

Towards A Respected Christianity

Wednesday, October 15, 2025

That Christianity does not stand on the same pedestal it once did is obvious to even the most casual observer. But the depths of the disrespect, particularly on a global scale, can be under appreciated.  In Rome, a man recently urinated on the high altar at St Peter’s Basilica.  (Turns out this is the third act of desecration at the altar in the last 24 months.)  But that seems minor disrespect when you consider that Christians are being slaughtered en masse in Nigeria.  Sure America’s so-called intelligentsia dismiss those of us of faith with a derisive hand wave, but that seems almost insignificant compared to these sorts of acts.  How did we get here?. . .

How Dare Trump Win?

Tuesday, October 14, 2025

A long time ago, apparently outside the memory of most reporters. the otherwise failed administration of Jimmy Carter scored its one most memorable and worthy accomplishment – The Camp David Accords.  Carter brokered a peace deal between Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin – a deal that has held until today.  I recall a sense of disbelief that Carter could do anything right.  I recall a hesitation to admit his success, fearing that somewhere in there was a mistake that would jump up and bite us.  I am sure a lot of other people had their doubts as well.  But everyone kept those doubts to themselves and bided their time, willing to let Carter succeed if he had in fact succeeded.  If only that were the case these days.. . .

Media Mayhem

Monday, October 13, 2025

The Israeli hostages are home.  Trump wins big – it is that simple.  But the mainstream, legacy media, well, they just don’t get it.  George Stephanopoulos just flat out cut the V.P. off.  (Which the host attributes to his inability to face up to the fact that Trump has won this one.)  And CBS could be looking at a whole staff changeover.  (Go Bari Weiss!)    Ratings are tanking.  Polls show they are not trusted.  We are witnessing a suicide as they absolutely, positively refuse to change.. . .

The Fickle Public

Saturday, October 11, 2025

Bob Knight is one of the greatest basketball coaches in history.  Who?  I am sure is asked by many.  Of course most great basketball coaches like Adolph Rupp, John Wooden, Dean Smith have faded into historical footnotes – but Coach Knight, equally on a par with any of them, is more than likely a footnote on their footnote.  Despite one of the best records in college basketball history he was fired in disgrace by Indiana University after 29 years for, frankly, being the same guy he was when they hired him.  He was irascible, and demanded much of his players.  He was a strict disciplinarian – and somewhere over the 29 years he was at IU, such traits went from laudable to disgraceful, hence his dismissal.. . .
