A Prayer for Making Minutes Matter | Your Daily Prayer

Reflecting on Ephesians 5:15-16, Tammy Darling considers how seemingly insignificant minutes can become habits that shape our relationships, spiritual lives, work, rest, and obedience. This devotional encourages believers to steward their time intentionally while remembering that biblical wisdom also makes room for rest.

What Does the Bible Say About Using Time Wisely?

The Bible encourages believers to treat time as something entrusted to them by God. Ephesians 5:15-16 calls Christians to live wisely and make the most of every opportunity. Biblical stewardship of time isn't simply about accomplishing more; it includes intentionally making room for obedience, relationships, service, prayer, work, and appropriate rest.

What Does “Making the Most of Every Opportunity” Mean in Ephesians 5:16?

Paul's instruction comes within a larger call for Christians to walk wisely. The emphasis isn't simply efficiency or productivity. It's about living deliberately as followers of Christ and recognizing opportunities to live faithfully in the time we've been given.

Does Using Time Wisely Mean Always Being Productive?

No. Scripture also recognizes appropriate seasons for both activity and rest. Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us that there is a season and time for different purposes. Rest can therefore be part of wise stewardship rather than evidence that time has been wasted.

A Question Worth Asking

Instead of only asking:

“What did I accomplish today?”

try asking:

“Did I give my time to what mattered today?”
