In 2005, a then-unknown Carrie Underwood took home the crown in Season 4 of the hit television series "American Idol." Since her big win more than 20 years ago, she has become a country music superstar, producing dozens of songs and albums, and has even shared her faith more openly.

This past Sunday, Underwood attended worship at Rolling Hills Community Church in Franklin, Tennessee. During the service, the former "American Idol" winner and current judge surprised congregants by stepping on stage with the choir. Singing “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” and “What A Beautiful Name,” she openly shared how much her faith means to her:

“I know how difficult it is to come into the entertainment industry and bring your faith with you,” she told them after they were done singing. “It is a brave thing to do because there are a lot of outside forces that are going to tell you not to do that. I want to tell you that I’m proud of you guys” (Movie Guide).

Today, as one of the judges on "American Idol," Underwood gives Christian singers the same advice. “You don’t have to…sell your soul to make it in the entertainment industry. You are going to have to stand strong in your faith and remember who got you here, because it wasn’t you,” said Underwood.

While this was a moving and powerful performance, it was not her first at the Tennessee church. She has taken the stage and performed during the house of worship's Christmas and Easter services in the past, according to Coyote Country.

For the 14th season in a row, Underwood will open "Sunday Night Football."While her fame continues to spread and rise, Underwood is determined to take her faith with her. The show will air on NBC on Sept. 13 as the Dallas Cowboys face the New York Giants.
